Biological Activity

2,6-Dihydroxyanthraquinone (Anthraflavic acid) is an anthraquinone derivative that acts as a potent and selective inhibitor of cytochrome P-448 activity. By inhibiting cytochrome P-448, this compound modulates xenobiotic metabolism and suppresses the bioactivation of environmental procarcinogens. Consequently, it attenuates downstream mutagenic pathways and cellular transformation phenotypes, serving as a valuable chemical tool for investigating cytochrome P450-mediated metabolic processes and toxicology. FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
