Biological Activity

11-Mercaptoundecanoic acid is a thiol-terminated fatty acid functionalizing agent utilized in the preparation of self-assembled monolayers and metal-associated nanoparticles. Carboxyl-terminal activation of these monolayers facilitates efficient biomolecule conjugation for electrochemical biosensing platforms. Furthermore, 11-mercaptoundecanoic acid-coated gold nanoclusters display minimal cytotoxicity and undergo cellular internalization to distribute within the cytoplasm of cancer cells, supporting their utility as biocompatible bioimaging probes.[1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
