Biological Activity

MNNG (1-Methyl-3-nitro-1-nitrosoguanidine) is an orally active DNA alkylating agent with toxic and mutagenic properties. It exerts carcinogenic and mutagenic effects across human diploid lymphoblast lines (MIT-2, WI-L2, and GM by inducing methylating DNA damage. In vivo, MNNG is widely used to establish animal models of gastric carcinoma and precancerous lesions, which involve alterations in the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway and gastric mucosal atrophy. FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
