Biological Activity

Lanreotide acetate is a synthetic somatostatin analog that acts as a somatostatin receptor agonist, primarily targeting somatostatin receptor subtypes 2 and 5 (SSTR2 and SSTR5). Upon binding to these receptors, it suppresses intracellular cyclic AMP production, leading to the inhibition of growth hormone secretion and attenuation of cell proliferation. Lanreotide also exerts direct antitumoral effects by promoting cell cycle arrest and triggering apoptosis in somatostatin receptor-expressing tumor cells. [1][2]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
