Biological Activity
Abarelix is a synthetic peptide and potent gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) receptor antagonist. It competitively binds to pituitary GnRH receptors, thereby disrupting endogenous GnRH-mediated signal transduction. This targeted receptor inhibition rapidly decreases the secretion of luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone, suppressing downstream testosterone biosynthesis without triggering an initial surge in gonadotropin or androgen levels.
