    Background
Goat/sheep IgG represents the primary antibody mediating adaptive immune responses in these ruminants, with IgG1 predominating in colostrum to confer passive immunity to newborns, while both subclasses circulate in the serum. These Y-shaped glycoproteins feature two heavy γ chains and two light chains linked by interchain disulfide bonds, including a single inter-heavy chain disulfide distinctive to goat IgG, with the Fc region's CH2 domain bearing complex biantennary N-glycans characterized by bisecting GlcNAc, high galactosylation, core fucosylation, and N-glycolylneuraminic acid sialylation that modulate effector functions. IgG1 excels in haemagglutination, classical complement fixation, and heterologous anaphylaxis to facilitate opsonization and pathogen clearance, whereas IgG2 supports cytophilic activity and homologous anaphylaxis; monoclonal anti-goat/sheep IgG provides species-specific detection in immunoassays, proving invaluable for ELISA, Western blotting, and flow cytometry.
