Biological Activity

Description Manganese chloride occurs in nature as the mineral. It is used as a precursor for other manganese compounds.
In vitro MnCl2 inhibits proliferation in a dose- and time-dependent manner, induces G0/G1 and S phase arrest and apoptosis in A549 cells[1].

Protocol (from reference)

Cell Assay:

[1]

  • Cell lines

    A549 cells

  • Concentrations

    0.1, 0.5, 1.0 or 2.0 mM

  • Incubation Time

    24, 48 or 72 h

  • Method

Cells are treated with various concentrations of MnCl2 (0, 0.01, 0.1, 0.5, 1.0 or 2.0 mM) for 24, 48 or 72 h. Cell proliferation is determined with MTT assay and mitotic index measurement and apoptosis is measured by flow cytometer.

Animal Study:

[2]

  • Animal Models

9-10 week old Fischer 344/N rats and FVB/N mice

  • Dosages

    2.0-2.3 mg/m3 at a flow rate of 20 L/min

  • Administration

    inhalation exposure
