Biological Activity

Description Vitexin (Apigenin-8-C-glucoside), an naturally occuring apigenin flavone glycoside, acts as a platelet aggregation and alpha-glucosidase inhibitor and shows antineoplastic activity.
Targets
HIF-1α [4] SIRT6 [3] SIRT6 [3]
In vitro Vitexin promotes cell viability, inhibits apoptosis, and decreases inflammatory cytokines. These protective effects are related to the regulation of ER stress by vitexin in chondrocytes[2].
In vivo Vitexin ameliorates sexual dysfunction and fertility impairments in male diabetic mice possibly by modulating the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal axis[1].

Protocol (from reference)

Cell Assay:

[2]

  • Cell lines

    Chondrocytes

  • Concentrations

    0-100 μM

  • Incubation Time

    24 h

  • Method

Chondrocytes (2 × 105 cells) were planted in a 96-well plate and treated with various doses of vitexin, with or without IL-1β (10 ng/mL), for 1 day according to the requirements of the experiment. All of the chondrocytes were incubated for 2 h with cholecystokinin octapeptide (CCK-8) (10 µL) and the absorbance of the reaction at 450 nm was then quantified using a micro-plate reader.

Animal Study:

[1]

  • Animal Models

    adult male mice (25–30 g)

  • Dosages

    10, 20 and 40 mg/kg

  • Administration

    oral
