Biological Activity

Description Spermine (4,9-Diaza-1,12-dodecanediamine) is a polyamine involved in cellular metabolism found in all eukaryotic cells. It is found in a wide variety of organisms and tissues and is an essential growth factor in some bacteria.
In vitro

Spermidine and spermine significantly increases the viability and proliferation of SKOV-3 cells in a time-dependent manner, and decreases the apoptotic effect of Difluoromethylornithine (DFMO) in SKOV-3 cells. [1]

In vivo

Pretreatment with SPM significantly alleviated liver injury and reduced intrahepatic inflammation in thioacetamide (TAA)-induced liver injury compared to controls.

Protocol (from reference)

Cell Assay:

[1]

  • Cell lines

    SKOV-3 cells

  • Concentrations

    50 μM

  • Incubation Time

    1–5 days

  • Method

SKOV-3 cells are incubated with 50 μM spermidine or spermine for 1–5 days, and then cell viability and proliferation are determined using the PrestoBlue or CellTiter-Glo assays, respectively.
