Biological Activity

Description	Methyl 4-hydroxycinnamate (OMpCA) is a model chromophore of the Photoactive Yellow Protein (PYP).
In vitro	Methyl p-coumarate significantly suppresses the melanin formation in B16 mouse melanoma cells^[1].

Cell Assay:^{^[1]}	Cell lines B16 mouse melanoma cells Concentrations 0.01 mM Incubation Time 72 h Method Cells are cultured in RPMI1640 medium in a humidified atmosphere with 10% CO2 at 37℃. Subcultures of cells are plated at a density of 2.0×10⁵ cells/well. Approximately 24h later, the sample is added, and cells are harvested for 72h after drug addition. All samples are dissolved in DMSO and the final DMSO concentration was 0.1% in all experiments. The harvested cells are suspended in 0.5 mL of 1M NaOH solution containing 10% DMSO, which are sonicated and incubated overnight. The inhibition of melanin formation is estimated by the comparison of absorbance at 475 nm with inhibitor-free experiment. The cytotoxicity assay is performed.
