Biological Activity

Description 4-HNE (4-Hydroxynonenal) is one of the major end products of lipid peroxidation and has been widely accepted as an inducer of oxidative stress.
In vitro

4-Hydroxynonenal (4-HNE) is one of the main end products of lipid peroxidation,  which induces the expression of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), peroxiredoxin-1 and stress protein A170 in an Nrf2-dependent manner in murine macrophages.<a class="sref" href="#s_ref">[2]</a>

  • Cell lines

    Mouse Peritoneal Macrophages

  • Concentrations

    10 μM

  • Incubation Time

    24 h

  • Method

Oil Red O Staining: Mouse peritoneal macrophages were incubated for 24 h at 37℃ in 5% CO2 in PRMI 1640 medium containing 10% FCS in the absence or presence of 4-Hydroxynonenal (4-HNE) (10 μM) or moxLDL or oxLDL (200 μg protein/ml). Cells were washed twice, fixed in formalin, and stained with oil red O. The area of lipid-loaded macrophages was measured using a computerized MacSCOPE image analysis system.
