Biological Activity

Description (-)-Epigallocatechin, widespread in plants, has been shown to exhibit anti-tumor, anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory functions.
In vitro (-)-Epigallocatechin (EGC) shows the anti-proliferation effects on AML cells. EGC-treated cells show not only the suppression of FLT3, but also the suppression of phosphorylation of MAPK, AKT and STAT5. EGC suppresses FLT3 expression through Hsp90[1]. EGC inhibits heregulin-β1 (HRG)-induced migration/invasion of MCF-7 human breast carcinoma cells. It does not cause modification of MCF-7 cell cycle phases. EGC inhibits HRG-induced phosphorylation of ErbB2/ErbB3 at a low cell confluence and does not activate Akt at either a low or high cell confluence[2].

Protocol (from reference)

Cell Assay:[1]
  • Cell lines

    MOLM-13, MOLM-14, MV4-11 and KOCL-48 cells

  • Concentrations

    0-200 μM

  • Incubation Time

    72 h

  • Method

Cell proliferation is determined by trypan blue dye exclusion test. Briefly, cells are seeded in 6-well plates at a density of 1×105 cells/ml in the presence of different concentrations of EGCG, EGC, ECG and C for 72 hours. After the treatment, 10 µl of the cell suspension is mixed with 10 µl of 0.4% trypan blue, and alive cells are counted manually using a hemacytometer.
