Biological Activity

Description Cyclandelate (BS 572,3,5,5-Trimethylcyclohexyl mandelate) is an effective inhibitor of rat hepatic acycloenzyme A: cholesterol acyltransferase (ACAT) with IC50 of 80 μM.
Targets
ACAT [1]
(Cell-free assay)
80 μM
In vitro

Cyclandelate is a direct-acting smooth muscle relaxant used to dilate blood vessels. It may cause gastrointestinal distress and tachycardia. Cyclandelate is in a class of drugs called vasodilators. Cyclandelate relaxes veins and arteries, which makes them wider and allows blood to pass through them more easily. Cyclandelate produces peripheral vasodilation by a direct effect on vascular smooth muscle. Pharmacological action may be due to calcium-channel antagonism. [1] Cyclandelate is involved in the detoxification of xenobiotics and in the activation of ester and amide prodrugs. Cyclandelate hydrolyzes aromatic and aliphatic esters, but has no catalytic activity toward amides or a fatty acyl CoA ester. [2]
