Biological Activity

Description DHBP (1,1'-diheptyl-4,4'-bipyridinium), a viologen for electrochromic memory display agent, inhibits the calcium release induced by 2 mM caffeine and 2 μg/ml polylysine with an IC50 value of 5 μg/ml and 4 μg/ml respectively.
In vitro DHBP is a putative inhibitor of ryanodine receptors (RyRs). It is an attractive water-soluble, cell-permeable and reversible experimental probe to understand the role of RyR's in cellular processes. DHBP (10-50 μM) significantly inhibits RyR-mediated Ca2+ release from sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) in intact single fibers enzymatically isolated from murine flexor digitorum brevis (FDB) muscles. DHBP (10-50 μM) also inhibits SR Ca2+ release in ventricular epicardium of intact hearts[1].
